About

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Johanna Dekel, graduated with a Master's degree in Textiles from the Universidad de los Andes. Her career began with commercial design projects for home décor, but her true passion lies in creating sustainable, one-of-a-kind art pieces, garments, and decorative objects.
Upon moving to France nearly 20 years ago, she became increasingly disillusioned with the concept of fast fashion. The rapid succession of collections, seasonal sales, and the constant push for consumption fostered an unsustainable cycle of disposal. In contrast, she grew up in a family where clothing and cherished objects were passed down from generation to generation—where things were purchased only out of necessity, repaired with care, and only discarded once their full life cycle had ended.
Her creative vision focuses on breathing new life into discarded materials—old garments, vintage textiles, and forgotten fabrics—through traditional techniques such as weaving, embroidery, and painting. She transforms these into timeless works of art, unique fashion pieces, and meaningful decorative objects that tell stories and endure over time.
By rediscovering ancestral craftsmanship and reflecting on contemporary issues, Johanna Dekel blends the richness of the past with the challenges of the present to create contemporary aesthetics that invite reflection and promote a deeper appreciation for durability and craftsmanship.
